As the summer comes to an end, we would like to extend a huge thank you to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office for showing our participants all summer long all they do for our community. Their dedication and commitment have made this summer truly unforgettable for everyone involved.

Little PAL’s Mini Discovery Day

One of the highlights for our Little PAL participants was the mini discovery day. The kids had a fantastic time engaging in various activities that provided insight into the fascinating world of law enforcement.

  • Crime Scene Experiments with Forensics: The children got hands-on experience with crime scene experiments, learning about the meticulous work involved in forensic investigations.
  • Distracted Driving Awareness with TRADD: They also participated in activities led by Targeted Response Against Distracted Driving, gaining valuable knowledge about the dangers of distracted driving.
  • Physical Abilities Test: The day wouldn’t have been complete without trying out a modified physical abilities test, which was both challenging and fun.

Big PAL’s Forensic Adventure

Our Big PAL participants enjoyed an equally enriching experience, diving deep into the world of forensics.

  • Fingerprint and Shell Casing Analysis: They learned to analyze fingerprints and searched for shell casings using metal detectors, gaining a better understanding of the techniques used in crime scene investigations.
  • Forensic Vans: The participants got to inspect the forensic vans used at every crime scene, giving them a real-world look at the tools and equipment used by professionals.

Shared Experiences: K9 Duke, Helicopter, and Touch a Truck

Both our Little PAL and Big PAL participants had the pleasure of meeting K9 Duke, which was an absolute delight for everyone. They also got to check out one of the helicopters used by the Sheriff’s Office, providing an exciting look at how they help out the county from the skies. Additionally, all participants took part in a Sheriff’s Office touch a truck event that included a SWAT vehicle, a high-water rescue vehicle, and, of course, the iconic Sheriff’s Office Tahoes.

Wrapping Up with a Visit to the Sheriff’s Office

To cap off the summer, our Big PAL participants visited the Sheriff’s Office. They challenged themselves with the physical abilities test and learned various defense tactics, further enriching their understanding of law enforcement duties.
